The French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) is a public scientific and technological institute which operates under the joint authority of the French Ministry of Health and French Ministry of Research.

Every year since 1987, Inserm organize event called «Inserm Workshops» which are high level training session to transfer knowledge and experiences to a public that has a direct interest in the field.

They are mainly intended for researchers, scientists, technicians and medical doctors working in government-funded bodies, universities, teaching hospitals and companies in health-related industries.

Inserm Workshops consist of two phases:

  • A theoretical phase (Phase I): it is aimed at reviewing a technique and/or an emerging issue. Trainees expect to learn about it and assess its usefulness either for a given research project and/or for the laboratory.

This phase takes place on a residential basis during four half-days spread over three days.

  • A practical phase (phase II): its purpose is to allow some trainees to master a technique covered in the theory phase.

As it takes place in a laboratory, the number of places is limited to the capacity of the laboratory and by the technique being studied. The duration ranges from to 2 days to one week.
